The Cary Graphic Arts Collection is pleased to honor Robert Bringhurst with the 2016 Frederic W. Goudy Award. Please join us for the presentation of the award and the Goudy Distinguished Lecture in Typography. Bringhurst’s talk, “Putting Big Truth in Little Boxes: The Perils of Taxonomy” will discuss how people give names to things and ask what typographers and typographic historians can learn about nomenclature from biologists, art historians and other specialists.
Robert Bringhurst, a leading poet, typographer and linguist, is the author of dozens of books of poetry and prose. His influential reference book, The Elements of Typographic Style—first published in 1992—is now in its fourth edition and has been translated into 10 different languages.
The event is free and open to the public. A reception will follow after the lecture.
Date/Time: Thursday November 17, 7-9pm
