Multidisciplinary: Science Direct Implements New Search Platform
On January 21, 2007, ScienceDirect will implement the highly acclaimed FAST Enterprise Search PlatformTM. This new search engine, which is powerful, quick and flexible, was recently voted ‘Top Search and Retrieval Technology’ in Information Today’s first People’s Choice Awards.
Some of the benefits include:
- The connector AND is automatically inserted between terms unless an alternative connector is used.
- Multiple wildcards may be used in the same word.
- Accents will be recognized, as will non-Roman characters. Users will be able to search for papers in non-English content, e.g., Chinese, French.
- The search engine will immediately be able to report any number of results. Note however, the number of records that can be displayed is still limited to 1000 records.
- Advanced relevancy tuning allows for more accurate ranking.
- Improved author and affiliation searching.
- The ability to develop ScienceDirect in the future with e.g., clustering of themes, and fields, spelling checkers and dictionaries, etc.
