A Century of Women at RIT--March 2008 Event

We are planning an event to recognize the long history of women’s involvement with education at RIT in conjunction with International Women’s Day/Month and Women’s History Month. This event, “Pathways: A Century of Women at RIT” will be held on Thursday, March 20, 2008 in the Wallace Memorial Library’s Idea Factory and the RIT Museum. Organized through the cooperative efforts of the RIT Archives, the Women’s Center, and the Women’s and Gender Studies Program in the College of Liberal Arts, we are contacting people on campus who might be interested in participating in the programming for the event.

We are planning to highlight student work that engages with the history of women at RIT as well as student work that illustrates contemporary education at RIT. We are particularly interested in working with instructors whose winter quarter classes might provide projects that can be integrated into the exposition of student work. Pathways: A Century of Women at RIT

Rationale:

The goal of this event is to highlight and celebrate the roles women have played on the RIT campus since 1885. To that end, programming will have a dual focus:

first, engagement with the history of women and their education on the RIT campus through student projects like oral histories, biographies, and interpretive written and/or visual pieces inspired by the RIT Archives and other sources;

second, presentation of the work of current women students at RIT.

Description:

an exposition in the afternoon that showcases student work in the Idea Factory.

programming will include presentations, poetry readings, performances, art work, installations, multi-media displays, and an exhibition of short films made by the Women of SoFA

a reception and opening of a new exhibition on women at RIT at the RIT Museum

programming will include exhibition, presentations, recital by Encore
