First TTY Modem on Display in RIT Library
One of two modems used in the first TTY call in 1964 is now on display at RIT's Wallace Memorial Library. The device was not only a technological breakthrough, it allowed persons with hearing loss the opportunity to directly communicate via traditional telephone for the first time.
