Joannes Marchesinus, Mammotrectus super Bibliam, Mainz: Johann Fust and Peter Schoeffer, 1470.
Peter Schoeffer, noted as the printer of record in the colophon of this book, is thought to have been Gutenberg's apprentice. After his master's bankruptcy, he joined forces with Johann Fust, later becoming his partner and marrying his daughter.
Note how successfully the typeface imitates a popular bookhand of the period. The colored initials were put in by hand because it was extremely difficult to hold register in early color printing.
