1900's RAMI Letter Patch with Seal

Title
1900's RAMI Letter Patch with Seal
Subject

A letter patch given to those who graduated, bears the school seal of the very early 1900's

Description

This patch was given to students at graduation and bears the official seal of the Rochester Athenaeum and Mechanics Institute (RAMI), which was also printed on the diplomas. This version of the seal was adopted around the year 1900 and featured a “modernized” variant of the woman on the symbol. The woman no longer sat on a throne and no longer held anything, and rather than a helmet and breastplate, a shield was displayed. Over the years small adjustments were made to this seal, including a change in the circular border and the addition of the “RAMI” monogram next to the woman.
