RESEARCHING MULTICULTURAL RESOURCES
ON THE WORLD WIDE WEB

The world we live in is becoming more global every day. In this global society information professionals must be prepared to provide quality service to a variety of different people. This page is designed to give you useful sites for doing research via the Internet to find multicultural resource sites.

When doing any research on the Internet you must evaluate the source that is producing the work. There are several sites on the Internet that gives guidelines/suggestions for examining a particular website. The best one that we have found is called "Thinking Critically about World Wide Web Resources." This resource is produced by Esther Grassian, from the UCLA College Library. The URL for this is: http://www.library.ucla.edu/libraries/college/instruct/critical.htm

Web sources dealing with multicultural, pluralism, cultural diversity, etc. are plentiful. Many are very useful for research, curriculum planning, and other scholarly activities. Many are purely for entertainment.

As you all know, the Internet is increasingly becoming the research tool of choice for schools, colleges, and businesses. More and more publishers are beginning to market their products through the Web. Databases such as EbscoWeb, ProQuest, SIRS Researcher, and many many more are taking the place of traditional sources such as print journals, CD-ROMS, and print indexes and abstracts. As this medium continues to grow we as information professionals must continue to learn and adapt to this way of life. We must be able to help our users access this information, and to use good judgement in evaluating this material.

Professional librarians have an even more difficult role in this information age. Our clientele varies so much in the academic world. We run the gamut in terms of patrons' knowledge and abilities to use the Internet, so our job in helping these users, becomes even more critical because this technology will only increase the gap between the "haves and the havenots".

I hope that this resource page will help you in your quest to find quality information in all of your research.

The sources listed in this resource guide have been categorized to help narrow down specific subject related sites that may be of interest to you.
