Susan Mee and Jonathan Jiras. Bringing the Library to You: Integrating Library Resources into Online Classrooms.
ACRL/CNI/EDUCAUSE Joint Virtual Conference. "Innovate and Motivate: Next Generation Libraries,"April 20 - 21, 2006. http://www.ala.org/ala/acrl/acrlevents/virtualconference.htm
Abstract:
Courseware products such as Desire2Learn, Blackboard and WebCT are becoming increasingly popular on college campuses.
Integrating library resources into these products is a challenge as few products include easy integration "out of the box."
This presentation will give both a technical and user overview of a web based modular application that was developed
at the Rochester Institute of Technology Libraries. This application integrates
a wide range of library resources, including reserves course material, research databases,
books, articles and select web resources, into the online classroom by providing an
easy link from multiple courseware products. The application link also provides a
customized user experience that is college, program and course specific as
well as tailored to the needs of faculty and students. This application would be
of interest to librarians, online learning staff, and technical staff supporting campus
courseware applications. The myLibrary link is a simple, but powerful tool, requiring
little training and minimal development time as it links to pre-existing library
resources and systems.
The full streaming session with audio is available at the ACRL Joint Virtual
Conference website. Requires paid registration.

Susan Mee, Jonathan Jiras. "Rochester Institute of Technology's RIT’s Library Resources Link Server: A Web-Based Application to Integrate Library Resources Into Learning Management Systems" A poster presentation for Integrating Library Services Into a Learning Management System, April 18, 2008. Brockport, New York.
Abstract: The Rochester Institute of Technology’s “Library Resources Link Server” is a locally developed web-based application that presents contact information, library reserves, and selected databases, guides, and web resources within Learning Management Systems. It is a simple application that presents a customized list of library resources that are college, program, department, and course specific and are tailored to specific types of patrons -- faculty, undergraduate students, graduate students, and distance learners. This poster session will include a demonstration and a discussion of the benefits, design considerations, implementation, and development of the application. |
