Q: Why does RIT Library have access to
less than 100 eBooks via Safari? Why don't you have the ENTIRE
collection?
Q: Why can only 3 people at a time use Safari?
A: Unlike our other IT eBook collection, Books24x7
in which we have access to 1,000+ books with an unlimited
number of users, and all for one price (hefty though it is)
-- the Safari purchasing model is priced title by title combined
with an increasing cost based on the number of users who can
access it at one time. The library purchased as much access
and titles as we could afford at this time--it isn't cheap.
Q: I see that all the titles available via RIT Library's
Safari Collection are from O'Reilly. Are you still going to
get O'Reilly books in print?
A: We will continue to purchase OReilly books
in print though we wont be getting as many, now that
we are purchasing online O'Reilly titles too. The Safari Collection
of O'Reilly eBooks increases the access level for the entire
RIT community to the popular O'Reilly books -- much more than
single print copies that circulate for weeks at a time do.
Q: I'd like to suggest a title for purchase. How can
I do so? Does it have to be an O'Reilly title?
A: You are welcome to suggest OReilly and other
titles through our SUGGEST
NEW LIBRARY MATERIALS form.
Q: Can the library make the "no activity"
time longer than 10 minutes? Safari logged me off!
A: Unfortunately, the 10 minute inactivity time limit
is controlled by the vendor. At this time it cannot be lengthened.
