The RIT Puttin' on the Ritz dinner plates consists of 26 specially designed plates from this event held in 1987-1997, 2000-2005, 2007-2008, and 2010-2015. The annual event is hosted by the School of Hospitality and Travel Management as a means of fundraising for the RIT Hospitality Education Fund.

Biographical/Historical Information (Collapse)

Dating back to 1986, the "Puttin' on the RITz" dinner sponsored by the Department of Food, Hotel and Travel Management, now the  Department of Hospitality & Tourism Management was developed by students and faculty as a means of fundraising for the Rochester Institute of Technology Hospitality Education Fund. Over the years, the dinner has grown from a gathering of approximately 60 alumni, family, faculty and friends in Henry's restaurant on the RIT campus to a gala event that caters to more than 300 guests.

The well-attended Puttin' on the RITz dinner is student managed and organized to afford students the opportunity to showcase what they have learned in their coursework, and apply their newly learned skills to the real world of hospitality. Students manage all the logistics and details—from selecting location to fully taking charge of the kitchen—the event never fails to delight all its guests.

Scope and Content (Collapse)

The Puttin' on the RITz dinner has become a celebrated annual tradition in the School of International Hospitality and Service Innovation's Hospitality and Tourism Management Department. The event traces its roots back to 1986 when a student club organized a fundraising event that has since developed into one of the college's—and RIT's—favorite galas.

Each year a dinner plate is specially designed according to the theme of the event. Box 1 contains years 1987-1994; Box 2 contains 1995-2002; Box 3 contains 2003-2010; and Box 4 contains 2011-2015.
