Abstract
This collection contains records and materials pertaining to the RIT College of Applied Science and Technology. CAST was established in 1972 and grew to become one of RIT’s largest colleges. This collection contains clippings, promotional brochures, program information and news releases.

Historical Information for RIT College of Applied Science and Technology (Collapse)

The College of Applied Science was established in 1960. and Technology (CAST), established in 1972, is one of RIT’s largest colleges. In 2014, approximately one-fifth of all students at RIT were CAST students. It houses two schools: the School of Engineering Technology and the School of International Hospitality and Service Innovation.

In 2015, the School of Engineering Technology houses three departments: Electrical, Computer, and Telecommunications Engineering Technology; Civil Engineering Technology, Environmental Management and Safety; and Manufacturing and Mechanical Engineering Technology/Packaging Science.

The School of International Hospitality and Service Innovation houses two departments: Hospitality and Tourism Management and the Department of Service Systems. Students participate in RIT’s co-op programs; some of the college’s top recruiters for employment include Boeing, Intel, Disney World/Land, MGM Grand, Heinz, and Kraft Foods.

Scope and Content (Collapse)

The College of Applied Science and Technology collection contains clippings from 1970-1987, brochures, news releases, memorandums, CAST’s 25th anniversary newsletter, an invitation to the college’s 40th Anniversary Celebration in 2012, along with a 40th anniversary medal. There are departmental reports on programs, including ROTC, which also includes a brief history of ROTC being established at RIT. Also included is a timeline of CAST history documenting its' milestones up to 2008.
