Biographical/Historical Information (Collapse)

An MFA program in computer graphics design was inaugurated in 1984. An introductory class introduced students to using the keyboard, CRT, disk drive, tablet, printer, plotter and scanner to crate imagery. The emphasis was on creating shape files, pictures and writing simple programs. A Two-Dimensional Computer Graphics Design class provided exposure to computer graphic algorithms, design heuristics, design methodology, language data structures, and program structures. Projects involved complex programming. A Three-dimensional Computer Graphics Design course was also offered. Since this beginning computer graphics design classes at RIT have evolved and developed into various programs in the College of Imaging Arts and Sciences and the B. Thomas Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences in keeping with rapid changes in technology. In 2016, a Visual Communication Design MFA curriculum encompasses communication design, human-interaction design, motion graphics and 3-D digital graphics.
