StoryCorps, a non-profit organization that records oral histories of everyday Americans, started in 2003. Since that time, more than 30,000 interviews have been recorded. Participants are given a cd of the interview and a copy is housed at the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress. StoryCorps travels across the United States recording these histories, and in July of 2009, visited Rochester, New York.
