Historical Information for NJ - NY PC Deaf Connection (Collapse)

NJ-NY Phone TTY Inc. was started in August 1969 by Lee Brody in conjunction with Latham Breunig to help develop the TTY network in New Jersey and New York. They solicited used teletypewriter parts to refurbish and use in the Teletypewriters for the Deaf (TDI) network in New Jersey and New York. The NJ-NY Phone TTY was the first organization to raise the issue of developing compatibility standards for TTY's in the 1970's. The organization became known as the NJ-NY PC Deaf Connection in March 1993. The purpose of the new organization was to introduce in the Metro New Jersey-New York area an educational and public information program to educate and increase computer literacy in the deaf and hard of hearing community. It also conducted fundraising activities.
