Frequently Asked Questions

Are sessions eligible for professional development credit?
They may be, consult with your manager or supervisor about the sessions you are interested in.
What is a brown bag session?
Brown bag sessions are special sessions in which you are encouraged to bring and eat your own lunch as you attend the session. Many of the workshops we offer at lunch time will be lighter, fun, and less technical. Many will be held around tables, so that you have a place for your food and drinks.
Can I attend just one session?
Absolutely. Attend as many or as few sessions as you want.
Is there a cost to attend any of the sessions?
No, all sessions are free and open to the RIT community.
What are "Lightning Talks"?
The "Lightning Talks" are rapid fire micro-presentations (8 minutes long) presented by staff from around the campus. The eight minute time limit is strictly enforced and a lot of fun. If you would like to present a lightning talk, submit a brief description before June 5th to Julia Lisuzzo at jmlwml@rit.edu or call (585) 475-2363.
Do I have to register for "Extra Helpings"?
No, "Extra Helpings" will be available all day on the Library's first floor. All attendees are welcome to stop in at any time to ask any technology-related question or to just check your email. For more information about Extra Helpings, please contact Chris Lerch, Manager of Library Technology Services at crlwml@rit.edu or (585) 475-2050.
Will there be food?
In the morning there will be complimentary coffee, tea, and pastries.
Can faculty or students attend?
Yes. This event is specifically for RIT staff but all sessions are open to the entire campus community.
Why do I need to register?
Registration will help us choose a large enough room and have the proper number of handouts. Some workshops will be limited by the number of computers located in a room. We expect many of the sessions to fill to room capacity. Once room capacity is reached, registration for that session will be suspended.
Why are room assignments subject to change?
Rooms have been assigned based on the estimated numbers of registrations we expect for each session. We may switch room assignments based on the number of actual registrations. On the day of the event there will be a registration table on the first floor of Wallace Library where you can pick up your registration materials and get the final room assignments.
Can I change sessions or add sessions after I register?
Yes. Once you register, you can log back in and see all the workshops for which you have registered. You will be able to add, drop, and change your list of registered workshops until registration ends -- June 8.
Can I attend sessions for which I did not register?
No. All attendees register for the sessions they wish to attend. We expect many of the sessions to fill to room capacity. Once a workshop fills to room capacity, no more registrations will be accepted for that session.
Will there be handouts for the sessions?
Most sessions will have handouts and will be available at the individual sessions. Conference folders for collecting the handouts will be available at the registration table on the first floor of the library.
What are conference folders?
Conference folders will be made available at the registration desk on the first floor of Wallace Library. They will include your personalized schedule of the day’s events, room assignments, maps to the rooms, and a printed evaluation form. Handouts at each session can be added to the folders.
Will these sessions be held again?
The RIT Libraries has a very active year round schedule of workshops. Some of these sessions will be taught again, many of these sessions are planned only for this event. At the conclusion of this event we will email all attendees a link to a web based evaluation form to solicit feedback on the sessions and determine which if any of these could possibly be held again at other times throughout the year.
How can I make suggestions for next year?
Please use the evaluation forms that will be made available at each session, in your conference folder, and via an emailed link after the event, to make suggestions on how to improve this event -- including suggestions for next year's workshops.
Where do I go if I still have questions?
Please contact Jonathan Jiras at 585-475-7737 or jjjwml@rit.edu with any other questions.
