Lecture
and tour of the exhibition: "Rochester's Olmstedian Public
Pleasure Grounds."
|
| From the museum's newsletter: This photography exhibition presents rare views of the city's comprehensive park system - one of only six designed in the United States by the landscape architecture firm of Frederick Law Olmsted and his sons. Historical images, artifacts, and landscape plans selected from several Rochester archives and the Frederick Law Olmsted Natural Historic Landmark in Brookline, Massachusetts, will be on view with contemporary photographs of the city's parks. "All three parks - Genesee Valley, Highland, and Seneca - exemplify Olmsted's vision of "pleasure grounds" that recognize the need of people from all social strata to experience natural open spaces. This exhibition is particularly relevant for the Museum as Alling DeForest, George Eastman's landscape architect, apprenticed with Olmsted's firm and was often influenced by his style. For more information about George Eastman House see the Web Page at eastman.org . | |
