Let's start with the tile from page 1.
Then from the Filter menu select Blur --> Motion Blur
From the Filter menu select Other --> Offset
Choose the middle area (about 1/3) including the hard edge and repeat the Motion
Blur effect.
Use the selection tool
from the photoshop toolbar and make the selection.
Then repeat the Motion Blur filter effect that we used above. The result should
look like this.
Again, you can change color of this tile using the Hue/Saturation adjust menu.
Retest the pattern by defining a pattern like we did on page one.
