RIT Library takes care to ensure we accurately check-in
the books you borrow:
- We retrieve books from the locked bookdrops and from the
secured desk bin throughout the day and evening.
- A trained staff member scans the unique barcode of each
returned book into our automated computer system.
- Once scanned, the book is automatically and immediately
removed from your account.
- To double-check our work we rescan each book before
it is reshelved in its proper place.
- We continuously track our accuracy rate. Our check-ins
are 99% error free.

CLAIMS RETURNED PROCEDURE
|
If you believe there is a book checked out on your account but you
believe it to be returned, please read the following:
|
- Fill out a Claims Returned Form
and give it to a circulation assistant.
- Please be sure to fill in either your phone number or email
address so we can easily contact you.
- We will search for your book in the library within 24 hours.
- If we do find your book, I will immediately contact you.
|
If your book is not located upon our initial search, the following
will take place:
|
- Your book will be added to our search list.
- Our trained staff will search for your book for 6 months.
- We will put a message in your account allowing you to continue use of your
library privileges.
- You will still receive overdue notices from us during the search; you can
ignore them -- they are automatically issued by our computer system.
- If we locate your book at any time during the search, you will be contacted
and we will resolve the issue at that point.
- If the book is not located after 6 months, you will be contacted and we
can discuss the options we have in resolving the situation.
* Please be aware that any fines accrued due to late return
of library material or lost library material will result in a block
on your student account. This can prevent receipt of diplomas, transcripts,
and other important documentation. Please cooperate with us to resolve
this situation and avoid any complications with your account. If
you have any further questions or comments on this procedure, please
feel free to contact Laura DiPonzio
Heise at any time.
