Publishing & Scholarship Support Services (PSSS) provides a wide range of sustainable and innovative scholarly communication services to the RIT community. PSSS are available for consults and will assist with the following publishing specialties: open access journals, print on demand publications, and submission to ProQuest UMI Dissertations & Theses database. We also offer specialized services to assist with: copyright issues, including Turnitin, ISSN and ISBN registration assistance, digitizing and OCR of printed material, image scanning, copyediting, writing assistance, and citation management. Staff is also available for presentations on specific scholarly communications topics.

What is Open Access (OA)? OA is a publishing model that makes scholarship available globally on the Internet. Open access journals require that articles undergo a peer review process that models traditional publishing.

We offer support to potential RIT authors who want to explore the benefits of self-publishing. Our services include assistance with manuscript and cover formatting, uploading, creating an online storefront, ISBN registration assistance, and sale of print-on-demand books and other publishable materials through Lulu.com. Publish your work with Lulu and join other RIT authors by becoming part of the RIT Lulu community, OpenBook@RIT.
As of March 2008, RIT requires all theses and dissertations be submitted to ProQuest/UMI. The ProQuest/UMI dissertation database is the world’s most comprehensive collection of dissertations & theses. It is the database of record for graduate research with over 2.4 million dissertations & theses from around the world. We offer guides and online resources for graduate students who are publishing theses/dissertations.
ISSN and ISBN registration assistance
An ISBN gives your book a unique ID that will allow you to sell your book to bookstores, libraries and Amazon. ISSN is a worldwide identification system for periodicals and other serially-produced products.
