A useful way to provide course materials for student access anytime and from any location.

Research Databases
Wallace Library has purchased over 145 online database products, many of which contain full-text materials and encompass journals, magazines, newspapers, conference proceedings, newswires, encyclopedias, medical books, reports, case studies, statistical data, TV and radio transcripts, statutes, legal information...and much more. Database descriptions are annotated and listed by subject area. These databases will provide you and your students with the most current readings for your research and course materials.

A variety of digital image collections are available including Polish Posters, Art Museum Image Consortium (AMICO) (50,000 works from North American art museums), AP Photo Archive (700,000 photographs) and more.

How to create durable links to full text journal articles and books featured in the library's databases

Have you ever wanted to directly point your students to an online journal article or book chapter but haven't been sure how to because the link that worked for your session doesn't work when you refer back to it later?

Via a durable link someone can click on an article or book link provided on a syllabus, email, webpage, or myCourses and go directly to the item they need to read. Here is a step-by-step guide.

Information Delivery Services
IDS Express Service - RIT Library's interlibrary loan system includes document ordering, tracking, and a delivery system for both Interlibrary Loan (ILL) service and home delivery of library materials to off-campus distance learners. Advantages of IDS Express: It is easier to submit requests. Enter your name, address, delivery preferences, and other personal information only once, at the time of your first request (You may update your record whenever needed). You may place requests, check the status of your requests, renew materials, and communicate with the Information Delivery Services (IDS) office through your Web browser. There is an option to receive many articles electronically via the Web.

PowerPoint Resources
Overview

Using PowerPoint in the online environment requires rethinking certain aspects of using this presentation software.

  • PowerPoint Tutorials - basic to advanced
  • Considerations in creating your PowerPoint presentations for Electronic Reserve use or printing for coursepacks:
    • Colors
      • Use a minimum of colors & distinctive color contrasts
      • Lighter backgrounds with black letters will be easier to read
      • Bright colors tend to emphasize an important message or element
    • Typefaces and graphics
      • Small or cramped graphics will be difficult to read
      • Charts / Graphs - show trends rather than a detailed area
      • Avoid using all caps in large blocks of type - difficult to read
      • Use simple, block and sans serif fonts - Helvetica, Tahoma - easier to read
      • Avoid superimposing words over graphics - impairs readability
