One of the cornerstones of the RIT Cary Graphic Design Archive is the work of Cipe Pineles (1908-1991). She was the first woman who served as an art director of a major magazine. While her archive has been part of the Cary holdings since 1991, we are celebrating its final organization and publication on our digital repository website, called ArchivesSpace. Refer to this site to browse through the itemized holdings of the collection, which include thousands of letters, photos, drawings, and prints by and about Ms. Pineles.
This archival processing work was carried out by project archivist, Lauren Alberque. Her appointment is made possible by through a generous grant from the Henry Luce Foundation. The Henry Luce Foundation was established in 1936 by Henry R. Luce, the co-founder and editor-in-chief of Time Inc. The foundation seeks to bring important ideas to the center of American life, strengthen international understanding, and foster innovation and leadership in academic, policy, religious and art communities.
