SpiRIT the Tiger

Description

This 2x5 inch clipping from the RIT Reporter contains a letter to the editor, written by David Page, and addressed to RIT’s student body. In the letter, which he wrote to inform the student body of SpiRIT’s death, Page laments that “we have lost a dear friend!” After offering a personal account of the tiger’s journey in becoming the school’s mascot, Page explains that the animal had become plagued by both a calcium deficiency and a pelvic constriction, which ultimately resulted in the decision to put SpiRIT to sleep, for humane reasons. In his conclusion, Page emphasizes the fact that while the tiger had been unable to serve as mascot for very long, SpiRIT had indeed achieved his mission of “rais[ing] to the highest degree in history Student Pride in R.I.T.”
