Native Woman with Child, Bagby 18

Title
Native Woman with Child, Bagby 18
Description
This color photograph features a stern, solemn seeming Native American woman gazing off into the distance past the viewer while holding a child. The child contrasts sharply with the weathered features of the woman in not only age, but the way in which she is clothed. The small, floral dress provides a softer juxtaposition against the silver, leather, and denim adornments of the older woman—such juxtapositions may be coincidental or, rather evocative of hope or degradation. Surrounding the figures, the pueblo-style village evokes a feeling of exoticism and mystery.
